Modern office space planning is characterized by one insight: employees need to work in teams and communicate regularly. Today, the permanent availability of colleagues is a matter of course. Systems such as Skype and similar communication channels enable employees to be "always on". However, a study shows the limits. A large-scale test with 600 small teams provided the proof. Scientists asked the test subjects to solve tasks in three different scenarios. Scenario 1: the people had no contact with each other. Scenario 2: the test subjects had contact after each round and were able to exchange their knowledge. Scenario 3: the test subjects had contact after every THIRD round and were able to discuss results and solutions. The scientists expected that scenario 2, i.e. constant communication, would lead to the best results. No, this expectation was not confirmed! The best results were achieved by colleagues who worked according to scenario 3, i.e. alternating between communication and concentration. Communication and concentration at intervals optimize the results. Low performers as well as high performers work together more effectively if they have sufficient time to reflect on solutions and results in a concentrated manner in addition to the communicative phases.

Let's talk about open office spaces. Communication is not neglected here, you might think. But can it take place without disturbing colleagues? Here it becomes clear that retreat areas are very important. Room-in-room systems are a suitable tool. Retrofittable in existing buildings, in direct proximity to the workplace, clearly visible, easy to see, soundproof and usable without complex booking procedures, the room-in-room units offer the necessary retreat areas for teamwork, conferences, telephony or simply maximum concentration. The systems are also designed for flexibility and are easy to relocate. Synergy effect: conference rooms on the façade can be dissolved. The 1A space on the façade is therefore fully available for workstations. This sustainably optimizes the space ratios.

Two sound insulation classes, 37 db und 40 db

As a rule, the room-in-room system provides sufficient sound insulation at 37 dB to offer communicative colleagues privacy. Colleagues concentrating on their work at neighboring workstations are not disturbed and do not overhear the conversations in the vetroCUBE. However, if very sensitive topics are involved and the retreat room is also located in a very quiet environment, the room-in-room system can be designed in the 40 dB version. The glazing is then 16 mm laminated safety glass panes. Solid walls and ceiling elements are optimized accordingly.

vetroCUBE is a room-in-room solution that can be set up independently of the building structure in the immediate vicinity of the workstations. Often referred to as a think tank, the room-in-room system is the basis for sustainable. Optimization of room acoustics in large office spaces. This self-supporting room system offers free-standing retreats for concentrated individual work or for communicative teamwork and is therefore, conversely, an acoustic solution for sound insulation in open-plan offices. Since mid-2022, we have had a glossy glass sliding door for the room-in-room system in our range in addition to the all-glass double door. The sliding door is a solution for particularly tight spaces. There is no need to provide the functional area of the door, so that even the central zone of very narrow buildings can be fitted with the room-in-room system. The good sound insulation is surprising. After all, the sliding door achieves 34 dB. Compared to the system with a hinged door (37 dB), this is only a reduction of 3 dB.

Self-sufficient and ready to use

vetroCUBE is a self-sufficient, self-supporting room solution. The sound insulation is 37 dB, or alternatively 40 dB, allowing for confidential conversations. The room-in-room system is free-standing, with no connection to the ceiling or façade of the building. A structural analysis verifies its stability. The equipment makes the system independent of the infrastructure of the building in which it is located. It is equipped with its own ventilation system. Thanks to the integrated lighting, the room system is independent of the light in the surrounding room. The think tank is electrified ready for use. It can be equipped with a self-sufficient cooling system on request.

modular and flexible

The room solution is free-standing in the building so that the vetroCUBE can be moved easily and at any time. It has a modular design and can be extended as required. Each component can be reused. It does not need to be connected to the wall, façade or ceiling. This means that the vetroCUBE can be freely positioned in the building as a room-in-room solution.

Design

Frameless glazing and glass-to-glass corner connections guarantee a delicate and unobtrusive appearance. The transparent appearance of the Denker cell ensures that your room structure does not lose its visual balance. Visual relationships are deliberately enhanced. Do you still want to reduce the transparency? A selection of glass decorations is available.

Accessibility for room-in-room systems

Accessibility is just as important for room-in-room systems as it is for ALL other areas of office space planning. Although flexibility is paramount, we attach the system directly to the floor of the building and therefore do not need a separate system floor. Accordingly, the entrance area is at ground level. In conjunction with a 1000 mm wide door, this results in barrier-free access to the vetroCUBE.

Although self-contained systems, i.e. systems with a system floor, may be seen as more flexible, it should be noted that this flexibility is only given to a limited extent. In the event of relocation or repositioning, these systems also have to be dismantled, just like vetroCUBE, because they cannot be transported as a whole within the building structure.

Sizes and options of the room-in-room systems

On the following pages, we present various think tanks, e.g. for use as telephone booths, as consultation rooms or simply for meetings. However, the think tanks presented are only intended as suggestions. As the user, you specify the purpose for which you need the think tank and what space is available for the units. We know what space requirements result from this use and work out the right room-in-room systems for you.

We supply very small think tanks, e.g. for use as telephone booths, but also large think tanks for free-standing conference rooms in a room-in-room design. The requirements for optimum room acoustics, for example, are very different and depend on the size. In addition, a range of options and alternatives are available for the vetroCUBE think tank. Requirements vary from project to project, particularly with regard to lighting, electrification, ventilation and cooling of the room-in-room system. Fire protection can also entail a number of special requirements. We clarify these details with you in advance and adapt options accordingly.

Comparison and parallels to the drywall system

At woodtec, we are often confronted with the drywall option. The market offers systems such as Knauf Cubo. However, it is a good idea to remember the original ideas that led to the development of room-in-room systems. What was required was a room, like a piece of furniture, independent of the building's infrastructure, self-supporting, i.e. free-standing, without connection to ceiling, wall or façade, easy to install, easy to move, simply easy to change. You should carefully consider how important the easy, dust-free assembly and relocatability of the room-in-room construction is to you during operation. You need to evaluate the advantage of reusability of ALL components, as well as the modular expandability of the system. Also consider the options for adjusting the acoustics of the vetroCUBE. In addition to the highly sound-absorbing system ceiling, wall absorbers can be used to achieve optimum room acoustics. These wall absorbers become all the more important for good room acoustics the smaller the vetroCUBE has to be. Very important and precisely for this reason at the end: visualize the effect of a vetroCUBE glazed on three sides, for example. Now draw a comparison with the much more solid drywall construction.
